Maya Angelou Quote

Nature has no mercy at all. Nature says, "I'm going to snow. If you have on a bikini and no snowshoes, that's tough. I am going to snow anyway."

Season Picture

Reflection: For our season project i chose to use ericka gonzalez as my model. My season that my picture was suppose to represent was winter. I had her wear a fur jacket and her hood to get more of a wintery feeling and the stamps from photoshop that i used were snowflakes and a butterly looking design. I used cool colors to make my season stand out. Our assignment was to learn to use color plates and at first i was having difficulties following the photoshop directions but then i figured out were some of the tools were. My model was a really good model to use for intense looks her facial expressions worked really well with my picture

self-image

Reflection:
For my self image project i chose to use a background from flickr.com. I chose my background to be black with a splash of reggae colors to blend in good with my picture which i split into three colors red, yellow, and green. I used different layers to put text and to paste my original picture onto my background picture. I feel i learned a lot more about photoshop than before i did this project.

Fashion Project

Reflection:For our fashion project i used Jasmyn H. as my model. When i did her make up it came out really good but it wasnt very noticeable in the pictures as i thought it would. I chose different poses similar to magazines and Jasmyn was able to perform the poses very well. I felt that I do better with my camera but for this project i used ms. miles camera and strobe lights. The strobe lights made a big difference with the pictures. I felt my pictures colors could have come out better if i had developed them a little better

Reflection: For the president Obama picture i edited the picture and made it black and white. I wanted the picture a bright gray to show how important he is and to make him look like a bright person personality wise.

News Story

What does smoking do to you?

  • Smoking gives you bad breath
• Causes wrinkles earlier in life
•Makes your hair and clothes smell
• Can affect your sports performance -
• You won't be able to run as fast or as far.
• Stains your teeth makes your skin dry
• It will crease your lips from pursing them around the cigarette.
• It will make your skin tougher and not as soft.
• It will mix up the fluids in your brain

For my news story project i chose to pick smoking problems and i took pictures of someone actually smoking and what the result could be. I think these were the best pictures i've taken so far because the lighting came out very well and it all looks real. I can relate to this story because my grandmother had a smoking problem when she was younger and had many bad results. I really liked this project because i was able to find things that made the pictures look real for example the breathing mask which was fake but the background made it look as though she was in a hospital bed

cd cover

Reflection: Im really happy with the results I ended up with. My pictures came out really good even though they were very difficult to print since the prints came out really dark. I had to add a lot more light than i expected in order to get good pictures. I like the theme I used and had a really good model to use. Overall im satisfied with my cd cover

Photo History Assignment

Above is one of the few images created by Dorothea Lang. She is best known for her photos of migratory farm workers. She was born in 1895 and died in 1965. In this image that was taken off the arizona highway 87 during the time of the great depression, is a grandmother and a sick baby of migratory family in an open field. This black and white picture works well because its revealing what Lang is trying to communicate about the Great Depression. The black and white colors seem to give the image of an old picture which it is. The texture makes the grandmother appear like she is miserable or tired. Land also uses the light well, because you can tell that the background looks dry, and hot. I think Dorothea Langs work is very successful because it is very believable that this was taken during the Great Depression. Because of all the other photos Lang has taken i would not change this because it relates to all of her other pictures describing the farm families during this period of time.

Reflection

I'm really glad i was able to be in the first group to take pictures, so that next time i know what to fix.For my first couple of shots i chose samantha as my model. She worked really well at positioning herself and keeping poses for the pictures. I chose black and white backgrounds to see what fit her color tone better. White seemed to work a bit better since she was light skinned. The process was a bit slow because we were barely learning how to use the fix and start testing and printing. As i saw other students testing and printing i got the hang of it. Most of the pictures i've taken in the past were with digital cameras so it felt good to have a little change. Knowing how to work with the chemicals to develop the film was a good experience also because now i know the actual process in developing the film
